Charlottetown is the largest city on Prince Edward Island, and the province’s capital. Charlottetown’s Victoria Row has shops, restaurants and the Confederation Centre of the Arts, with its world-famous musical based on “Anne of Green Gables. The Province House National Historic Site hosted Charlottetown Conference in 1864, the first gathering to debate the proposed union and spurring the birth of Canada. From this, the city adopted the motto: “Birthplace of Confederation”.
Downtown Charlottetown includes the original lots surveyed by Captain Samuel Holland, as well as the waterfront facing the harbour and the Hillsborough River. Adjacent communities include Brighton, Spring Park, Sherwood and Parkdale. The areas to the west, north and east of downtown have been developed in recent decades with several residential and commercial/retail developments
