Mark Kenney, President and Chief Executive Officer
Mark Kenney joined Canadian Apartment Properties REIT (CAPREIT), a TSX listed company, in 1998. With over 30 years of experience in the multi-family sector and as President and Chief Executive Officer, Mark is actively involved in creating and implementing the strategic vision for the organization through the direction of company policy and oversight of the crucial divisions within CAPREIT, including property management operations, marketing, procurement, development and acquisitions. A frequent contributor to BNN Bloomberg and other media, Mark is a passionate advocate for the role real estate investment trusts (REITs) can play within the multi-family residential sector, working with government and non-governmental organizations to affect change and build supply so that all Canadians can have a safe and secure home.
In 2022, Mark was appointed to the Board of Directors of REALPAC – the national industry association dedicated to advancing the long-term vitality of Canada’s real property sector. He has held prior positions as director and as Chair of the Federation of Rental Providers of Ontario from 2009 to 2017, as well as the director of the Greater Toronto Apartment Association from 1998 to 2009. Mark is also a former non-executive director of Irish Residential Properties REIT plc (“IRES”). Mark Kenney maintains active membership in the Halifax, Montreal, Calgary, and Vancouver Apartment Associations, and holds a Bachelor of Economics degree from Carleton University.

Stephen Co, Chief Financial Officer
Stephen Co, Chief Financial Officer
Stephen Co is currently CAPREIT’s CFO. Stephen has been with CAPREIT since 2011, and most recently held the position of Vice President, Accounting. In addition, prior to this appointment, Stephen was the Chief Financial Officer of European Residential Real Estate Investment Trust (“ERES”) (TSX:ERE.UN), a role he assumed in January 2021. Previously, Stephen worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in the assurance practice servicing clients in the real estate sector. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Toronto, a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA) designation and is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charterholder.
Jodi Lieberman, Chief People, Culture and Brand Officer
Jodi Lieberman joined Canadian Apartment Properties REIT (CAPREIT) in 2009 and has been instrumental in developing our people and defining our culture, making CAPREIT one of the best places to work in Canada. Jodi has over 20 years of professional Human Resources experience with large organizations such as Labatt Brewing Company, TELUS Mobility and Bentall Kennedy. Jodi is responsible for leading and implementing CAPREIT’s People Culture and Brand strategy in alignment with the company’s growth-oriented business goals. Jodi has contributed significantly to the creation of a collaborative and highly engaged team, capable of meeting CAPREIT’s growing needs and is ultimately responsible for the employee experience. This includes ESG, training and development, talent acquisition and retention, wellness, employee relations, corporate services and compensation. As recognition for Jodi’s and her team’s accomplishments, CAPREIT has been consistently recognized as one of the 50 Best Employers in Canada since 2014. Jodi has an Honours BA in Sociology from York University and a graduate Certificate in Human Resources from Seneca College.

Julian Schonfeldt, Chief Investment Officer
Julian Schonfeldt joined CAPREIT in 2022 and is the Chief Investment Officer. Mr. Schonfeldt brings with him tremendous capital markets experience, having already been a trusted advisor to CAPREIT in his most recent role as Managing Director in the Real Estate Group at RBC Capital Markets. At RBC Capital Markets, Mr. Schonfeldt was responsible for equity and debt capital market transactions, mergers and acquisitions transactions, strategic advisory assignments, and the valuation of major assets and portfolios. Mr. Schonfeldt has raised over $15 billion of equity and debt capital and advised on over $10 billion of M&A transactions in the real estate industry. Mr. Schonfeldt holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Carleton University and holds his Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Chartered Business Valuator (CBV) and US Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designations.
